Did you know that your co-worker's spouse just lost his job? Did you know that your co-worker just declared bankruptcy? Did you know that your co-worker is dealing with a foreclosure on their home?
Attorneys tell us that their clients don't usually share that kind of financial information with their co-workers, their friends and sometimes even their families.
So, here's a very short fairy tale to remind us that during these economic times, it's not "business as usual" this year.
Once upon a time, there was a Queen Bee and a group of worker bees who all worked together in a big beehive in rural Missouri.
Each December, the Queen Bee gave each of her worker bees a present. Each December, the worker bees chipped in and gave the Queen Bee a present too.
This went on for years and years -- every December.
This year, the Queen Bee called a meeting and said they were going to stop giving each other presents because the presents got in the way. She told her worker bees that sometimes giving presents to each other, just because they always did, was silly -- particularly when everyone's finances were tight.
The worker bees were relieved. The worker bees suggested that instead of presents, they would all just be a little kinder to each other from now on. The Queen Bee thought that was a great idea and told them that from here on out -- that's what they'd do instead of giving each other presents.
And, they all lived happily after...
Except that -- this isn't really a fairly tale. It's just to remind us that sometimes things are not as they appear. Could be that The Queen Bee's husband may have lost his job and she doesn't want to tell you.
